These goup matwork classes use evolved Pilates repertoire and principles to create a flowing class using small equipment to enhance movement awarenes, release tension and maintain focus. The classes are a balance between strength and flexibility with the main aim being improved posture and quality of movement.
Group classes are limited to 12 participants and run in blocks (approx 6-8 weeks). Participants book their space in the class for the duration of the course.
These classes are run in-person and online. If you are unable to attend a class in the course, you will either receive a recording of the class you have missed, or will be able to make up with a different class.
These are mixed level classes. If you are a beginner, Lizzie offers one discounted introductory private session at her home studio, to run through the Pilates fundamentals and assess individual needs before attending the course. Participants can continue to attend 1:1 sessions until they feel ready to join a group class.

Private Sessions
Individual tuition is a great way to start Pilates, or for the more experienced practitioner, can provide more challenging repertoire. If you are coming to Pilates because of an injury or muscular-skeletal condition, private 1:1 sessions are highly recommended.
Using the Pilates equipment during a 1:1 session can facilitate additional support for the injured student, create feedback for the beginner, and equally can add more resistance and challenge for the more experienced Pilates student.
Private equipment sessions are held at Lizzie’s home studio in Bath. 1:1’s can either be booked on a regular or ad-hoc basis at a time that suits you.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is more than just a workout; it is a comprehensive approach to well-being. Through its integration of strength, flexibility, and control, Pilates helps individuals enhance their overall physical health, develop better body awareness, and align their mind and body. So, whether you're looking to improve your posture, relieve stress, or simply move with grace and control, Pilates offers a complete and invigorating exercise system to help you achieve your goals.
When it comes to physical training and wellness, Pilates has become a popular choice for individuals seeking to strengthen their bodies and improve their overall well-being. Developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, this exercise method has gained recognition and has become an essential part of many people’s routines.
Pilates focuses on enhancing strength, flexibility, and muscular control through a series of controlled movements and exercises. It targets the deep muscles of the abdomen, back, and hips, aiming to create a strong and stable core foundation. By engaging these muscles, Pilates helps improve posture, balance, and alignment, ultimately leading to a more balanced and functional body.
One of the defining aspects of Pilates is its emphasis on breath control and mindful movement. Practitioners are encouraged to synchronize their breath with each exercise, promoting a sense of calmness and relaxation throughout the session. This mindful approach not only enhances the mind-body connection but also helps relieve stress and tension, promoting mental focus and clarity.
The principles of Pilates serve as the foundation for its practice. These principles include concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow. Each principle contributes to the effectiveness and safety of the exercises, ensuring that movements are executed mindfully and with intent.
Another of the key aspects of Pilates is its focus on core strength. Training the muscles of the abdomen, lower back, hips, and buttocks forms a solid foundation for overall body strength and stability. The activation of these muscles, often referred to as the "powerhouse," not only improves posture and body alignment but also assists in alleviating back pain and improving overall muscular balance.
Unlike other forms of exercise, Pilates can be tailored to suit a wide range of fitness levels and abilities. Whether you're a beginner or an athlete, pregnant or recovering from an injury, Pilates exercises can be modified or progressed to accommodate individual needs. This adaptability makes it suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
Besides its physical benefits, Pilates also offers mental and emotional well-being. The slow and controlled movements, coupled with the emphasis on breath and concentration, provide a sense of mindfulness and relaxation. Regular Pilates practice can reduce stress, improve overall body awareness, and promote a sense of calm and balance.
